NAPA and SONOMA COUNTIES, CA — PG&E advised that starting this week through the end of January, a Blackhawk helicopter and a Bell 407 helicopter are scheduled to make several daily trips between St. Helena and PG&E's Fulton substation in Santa Rosa.
The helicopters are flying materials and other equipment needed to pull new line —reconductoring — for the 60-Kilovolt (kV) Fulton-Calistoga transmission line, PG&E North Bay Spokeswoman Deanna Contreras said.
"PG&E is working to upgrade and strengthen our electric system in the highest fire-risk areas to make a safer and more resilient grid given the rapidly changing environmental conditions in our service area," Conteras said. "In the North Bay, we are upgrading and repairing towers, poles, lines and other equipment along a 16-mile stretch from the Fulton substation in Santa Rosa to St. Helena."
The helicopter flights began Tuesday, Jan. 7 and are slated to continue daily between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. through the end of the month — barring inclement weather — between the landing / work zone at Cleland and Holst roads in Santa Rosa to the Sonoma/Napa County line.
Construction of the project is expected to be completed by July, with clean-up and restoration to follow.
